Full Job Description:
Toronto City Council approved the establishment of the Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation (TSHC) on May 5, 2021, with the aim of providing seniors with safe and well-maintained homes, as well as enhanced living conditions, services, and experiences. The goal of TSHC is to ensure that seniors can age in place with dignity and comfort. As of June 1, 2022, all 83 Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) seniors’ buildings have transitioned to be managed by TSHC. TSHC, while leasing the buildings from TCHC, will be responsible for minor capital and maintenance, focusing on tenant-facing issues, including health and social supports.

As a Cleaner, reporting to the Community Housing Supervisor, you will be responsible for cleaning and maintenance duties in assigned work locations in compliance with policies, procedures, applicable legislation, and standards set by the Toronto Seniors Housing. Working closely as part of a team, you will provide excellent customer service to tenants.

Responsibilities:
– Assist Regional staff with overall building cleaning to maintain a safe environment for tenants, staff, and the public
– Clean and maintain exterior grounds and internal common areas of assigned work locations
– Clean vacant units
– Respond to inquiries from tenants, staff, and the public and direct them to appropriate personnel in a courteous manner
– Operate various cleaning, maintenance, and communication equipment
– Respond to emergency situations within assigned work location according to policies, procedures, and guidelines
– Adhere to safety guidelines and use safety equipment as required
– Attend meetings and training sessions as required
– May be required to work night shifts and weekends
– Perform other related duties as assigned
– Knowledge and understanding of challenges faced by seniors in Toronto Seniors Housing
– Demonstrated ability to operate janitorial equipment
– Experience in cleaning or janitorial work
– Ability to operate manual and power tools and equipment is an asset
– Proficiency in English, both oral and written
– Ability to provide respectful service in a multicultural environment
– Ability to work safely and responsibly
– Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act including WHMIS
– Ability to perform heavy lifting and work outdoors as required
– Experience in building maintenance and repair is an asset
