Salary: $92,173– $97,473

Position Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:

Providing 24/7 emergency response services in our Communications Unit.
Delivering superior customer service to community members in both emergent and non-emergent situations.
Prioritizing calls for service by obtaining accurate information through effective questioning techniques to ensure the safety of callers, the public, and our officers.
Implementing York Regional Police Procedures to ensure the safety of community members and officers.
Utilizing computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and various police databases to generate calls for service and provide officers with directions for call response in a fast-paced work environment.
Directing callers to appropriate resources and coordinating with neighbouring police, EMS, and fire services.
Assessing operational needs for responding officers and providing appropriate direction for call response.
Monitoring officer location and status to ensure the most efficient response time.
Monitoring radio frequencies and dispatching calls for service as assigned.
Operating in a work environment characterized by continuous distractions, high levels of activity and noise, and potential privacy limitations.
Experiencing high-stress situations, a rotating work schedule, and prolonged periods of sitting, talking, keyboarding, radio transmissions, and telephone calls.

Mandatory Qualifications:

Successful completion of a one (1) year certificate related to Telecommunications, or a two (2) year diploma in a related field.
Alternatively, relevant experience working in a primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) centre may be considered.
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of an Emergency Response Communication program/certificate is preferred.
Experience with large volume switchboards and emergency services is preferred.
General knowledge of York Region road systems and the ability to interpret maps.
Ability to operate a computer-aided dispatch system and various related interface systems is preferred.
Understanding of emergency system processes, organization’s structure and hierarchy, and communications procedures is an asset.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to tactfully handle high-stress situations.
Capability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team.
Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ability to multitask, adjust priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
